Recycle Lead
Fair-time position
The Recycling program is a team effort between the Alaska State Fair and Valley Community for Recycling Solutions.
Pick up and assist with sorting cardboard and recyclables. Communicate with vendors on recycling procedure, set up sorting area, assist in placement of recycle barrels, monitor the roll-offs with Alaska Waste, check in and instruct recycling volunteers. Must be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions, have a drivers license with acceptable driving record, and are able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Garden Crew
Full-Time Seasonal Positions (hiring now)
Gardeners needed for the 2025 growing season at the Alaska State Fair. Candidates must be willing and capable of following instructions, able to work outdoors as part of a group, able to work with garden tools and able to be supervised. Work includes: soil preparation, planting, watering, fertilizing and mowing. Other duties as assigned. This is a physical labor job! Candidates must be physically able to perform the duties required, being able to routinely lift and carry 30 pounds, kneel and or be on their feet all day in all weather conditions. Available to work a 40 hour work week with occasional overtime as needed. Candidates must also possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Must be 17 to apply.

Media Assistant
Fairtime position August 15 – September 1
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in social media content creation
- Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills.
- Knowledge of social media – Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok Instagram, Snapchat, blogs, etc.
- Demonstrable social networking experience and basic social analytics tools knowledge.
- Positive attitude, detail and customer orientated with good multitasking and organizational ability.
- Ability to contribute individually, and participate in team setting
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Exceptional ability to learn, adapt, discover and test new ideas.
- Strong communication skills with other team members.
- Reply to comments, messages, etc. on social platforms as assigned.
- Develop creative content spontaneously “on-the-go”.
- Monitor the Fair social platform and alert tools for potential problems.
- Generate, edit, publish and share daily content (original text, images or video) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action.
- Optimize content within each platform to increase the visibility of sponsorship content.
- Moderate all user-generated content in line with the moderation policy for each social media platform community.
- Execute editorial calendars and syndication schedules.
- Collaborate with Exhibits and Events departments to manage content while identifying key sponsors and coordinate actions with the Social Media Team.

Souvenir Seller
Fair-time position (application for souvenirs won’t be reviewed until end of June/July
Minimum Qualifications:
- Merchandise selling skills.
- Consistent cheerful public interaction skills under stressful conditions.
- Must be able to stand for a five hour shift in semi-protected booth.
- Must be able to make change.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Sell souvenirs to public during Fair.
- Cheerfully greet public and offer information as requested.
- Maintain neat inventory, clean booth and help set up displays.
- Operate cash register and credit card machine.

Ticket Seller
Fair-time position
Minimum age 18. Ability to process large amounts of tickets and money quickly and accurately. Must be able to make change, process credit card sales, have excellent attention to detail, and provide courteous customer service under stressful conditions. Must have prior cash handling experience; heavy cash handling experience preferred.

Grounds Crew
Full-time Seasonal position
Minimum age 18. Ability to lift 75-100 lbs and willing to work in all weather conditions. Must have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record. Duties include painting, carpentry projects, lawn mowing, weed whipping, fence line maintenance, and garbage pickup.

Landscape Maintenance Technician
Purpose: The Landscape Technician assists the Head Gardener to beautify the grounds by servicing equipment and landscaping infrastructure. Also assists the General Maintenance Department as needed.
Reports to: Head Gardener and Grounds & Maintenance Director
Supervises: Seasonal garden crew
Confidentiality: None special required
Position Summary: Support the Head Gardener in maintaining and enhancing the Fairgrounds’ landscape. Responsibilities include equipment upkeep, greenhouse tasks, crew supervision and general maintenance support. Candidate must be flexible with a high aptitude for on-the-job training
Minimum Qualifications:
· Valid Alaska Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
· Physically capable of lifting, bending, kneeling and walking for extended periods
· Must be energetic, adaptable and team-oriented
· Comfortable with physical labor and getting dirty
· Available for 40 hours per week, including some weekends
· Able to work independently and as part of a team
· Skilled in operating snow removal equipment preferred.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
· Assist Head Gardener with daily landscaping tasks
· Maintain and service landscaping tools, vehicles and infrastructure
· Perform greenhouse duties such as, transplanting, watering, weeding and pest monitoring
· Supervise summer garden crew under the direction of the Head Gardener
· Support compliance with Alaska State Fair rules and safety protocols
· Assist maintenance team with installation and maintenance of winter events during off-season (Dec-Feb)
· Perform other duties as assigned
This is an entry level position but the candidate must have some basic maintenance skills. The ideal candidate will be willing and eager to learn various greenhouse and gardening tasks in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Runner
Fair-time position
Duties include distributing daily schedules and programs daily throughout the Fair, running errands to different parts of the fairgrounds and community, and assisting with clerical assignments including answering the switchboard as needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds, and must have a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record. Minimum age 18.
