Special Contest Attendant, Part-Time, Seasonal 

Special Contest Attendant will prepare and run the Special Contests in Hoskins Building during Alaska State Fair.  Must be organized, polite, alert, and professional.  Attendant will set up contest and contest registration at 4:00pm for each scheduled event.  Attendant will register all contestants and then at specified time: organize entries, assemble judges, and run the contest.  Must have good public speaking skills and be able to use a microphone while communicating with the public during each event.  Must be able to tally judges results and determine winners.  Special Contest Attendant will take pictures of winners and send with contest results to the Exhibits Supervisor for website publication within an hour of each event.  Special Contest Attendant will perform all set-up and clean-up of all Special Contests.

Pass Office Assistant, August & September

Minimum age 18. Ability to make change, good math skills, attention to detail, legible handwriting, familiarity with computers, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and able to stand for long periods of time. 

Duties include answering the phone; returning phone messages; processing credit card and cash sales; providing courteous customer service under stressful conditions; preparing ticket orders for vendors, staff, internet sales, etc.; disbursal of vendor packets; filing; and data entry.

Beverage Department, Fair-time position

Alaska State Fair is back, bigger and better than ever and we need bartenders! Position begins around August 15thand continues through about September 9th. TAP card and cash register experience required. Bartending experience is a plus. Must be able to lift 40 pounds and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work varied hours, ofttimes outside in inclement weather.

Exhibits Attendant, Part-Time, Seasonal

Provides information and assistance to the general public in the Hoskins and Irwin Exhibit Areas.

Attendants work in the Exhibit Halls to protect entries and inform the public during the Alaska State Fair.  Must be polite, alert, and professional. Attendants work 6 hour shifts and may be retained for cleaning before and after the fair. Attendants are representatives of the Fair and will use the Fair Daily Schedule to answer question from the public. Must perform general cleaning of assigned areas: including dusting, straightening pictures, picking up garbage, etc.

Media Assistant

To help to create and deliver creative content to initiate and produce compelling and persuasive optimized content across various media platforms (social media, print or newsworthy stories). To maximize opportunities for engagement, ranking, clickthrough’s and conversion. To produce onsite copy, features, sponsor tagging, promotional copy for offers and other content as required.

Qualifications:

  • Proven working experience in social media marketing or as a digital media specialist.
  • Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of social media – Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, Snapchat, blogs, etc.
  • Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge.
  • Positive attitude, detail and customer orientated with good multitasking and organizational ability.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to contribute individually, and participate in cross-functional teams.

Clay Arts Superintendent

Superintendent will coordinate the competitive Clay Arts Department so that it is fair, educational, attractive, and well organized.   Applicants must have a working knowledge of Clay Arts and must have good written and oral communication skills to recruit volunteers and judges from community organizations.  Superintendent will coordinate judging dates and times, ensuring entries are judged in a timely manner.  Superintendent must attractively display entries before 1st day of the Alaska State Fair.

Ticket Seller, Fair-time position

Minimum age 18.  Ability to process large amounts of tickets and money quickly and accurately.  Must be able to make change, process credit card sales, have excellent attention to detail, and provide courteous customer service under stressful conditions. Must have prior cash handling experience; heavy cash handling experience preferred.

Ticket Taker, Fair-time position

Verify and control admission tickets and passes at Fair entry gates.  Must have good attention to detail to ensure scanned tickets are valid; provide courteous customer service at all times.  Able to work outside in all weather conditions and stand for long periods of time.

Mailroom Attendant, Part-Time, Seasonal

Manage the distribution of all packages through the Alaska State Fair Mailroom.  

Must be able to speak English, must be at least 18 years old, a courteous, helpful attitude is essential. Must be trustworthy, organized, and professional. 

Attendant works from August 16th thru September 4th, usual hours will be 11 am thru 4 pm.  Off on Sundays. Attendant will ensure all mail & packages are inventoried during intake from mail organizations (USPS, UPS, FedEx, and FedEx Ground). Mail and packages will be distributed from the mailroom, by signature, to individuals or vendor organizations.

Grounds Crew, Full-time Seasonal position

Minimum age 18.  Ability to lift 75-100 lbs and willing to work in all weather conditions.  Must have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.  Duties include painting, carpentry projects, lawn mowing, weed whipping, fence line maintenance, and garbage pickup.

Souvenir Salesperson

Sell Fair souvenirs to customers.  Offer Fair information to fairgoers.

Qualifications:

  • Merchandise selling skills.
  • Consistent cheerful public interaction skills under stressful conditions.
  • Must be able to stand for a five hour shift in semi-protected booth.
  • Must be able to make change.

Recycle Shift Leaders

Work the entire Fair and a couple of days before and after; 2 shifts available, approximately 10am – 5pm and 3pm – 10pm. Be a support person for the Recycle Coordinator. Make sure the recycle sorting area is running smoothly. Give instruction to volunteers, check the grounds to
make sure barrels are positioned properly, and help
where needed with collection and sorting. Keep the
recycle area clean and organized. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 30 pounds.
