SEASONAL GREENHOUSE/GARDEN CREW, Full-time, Seasonal
These are seasonal positions. We have a limited number of positions beginning in April and May, the rest of the positions begin on May 26 and run through Labor Day. Various gardening duties such as, but not limited to: soil preparation, planting, watering, fertilizing and mowing. Must be able to walk, bend, kneel, lift and routinely carry 30 lbs. Be able to be outside for extended periods of time in any weather, including rain, rain, rain! Ability to work outdoors as part of a group. Ability to work with garden tools. Ability to be supervised. Available to work a 40 hour work week with occasional overtime as needed.
GROUNDS CREW, Full-Time, Seasonal
Minimum age 18. Ability to lift 75-100 pounds. Willing and able to work in all weather conditions. Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Duties include, but are not limited to: Painting, carpentry projects, lawn mowing, weed whipping, fence line maintenance and garbage pickup.
MAIN OFFICE RECEPTIONIST Full time, seasonal
Position starts in July and runs into September. Must have excellent switchboard skills, good interpersonal skills, good verbal communication, and be proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must be calm and personable under pressure, maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
COMMUNITY & CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS ASSISTANT, Part/Full time, seasonal
Part-time, flexible hours April – June, working towards full-time hours in July – September, 2019. Must be available 8am -11pm for all 12 days of the Fair. Act as support to the Director of Corporate and Community Partnerships. Duties include editing, writing, data entry, research, guest relations, hospitality, working with partners, and sponsor activation. Must have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Offi ce: Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must be calm and personable under pressure, maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance. Would be a great opportunity for a paid internship. MUST BE OVER 21.
Equestrian Center/Grandstand Attendant, Part-time Seasonal position
Provide customer service to Fair equestrian and facilities customers. Help maintain the buildings and grounds of France Equestrian Center and Grandstand in a clean and serviceable manner. Minimum age 18. Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively, ability/skillset to use equipment such as hand tools and tractor, and willing to work in all weather conditions. Must have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record. Duties include painting, carpentry projects, lawn mowing, weed whipping, fence line maintenance, and garbage pickup.
RECYCLING COORDINATOR, Part-time, seasonal
April to fair time – a couple hours per week; full time during the Fair. The Recycling program is a team effort between the Alaska State Fair and Valley Community for Recycling Solutions. The coordinator secures and schedules volunteers to work during the Fair and works with the Vendor Manager to distribute passes to volunteers. Secure and schedule 2 shift leaders who
will oversee the daily operation of gathering and sorting during the Fair, orient the volunteers for their specific roles, and assist at the Fair Recycle area as needed. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and lift up
to 30 pounds.
BARTENDER, Fair-time position
Bartending employment begins around August 22nd for prep, the Fair begins on August 27th and lasts through September 7th. Job position will continue through about September 8th for breakdown. We have several different venues with all types of hours. Must be willing and able to work outside in any type of weather, including wind and rain, as some venues are exposed. Weather aside, it is a fun job! TAPS card and cash register experience required. Bartending or barista experience is a plus. Must be able to lift 40 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT, Fair-time position
Rate depends on experience. Duties include creating and delivering creative content across various social media platforms with the purpose of maximizing engagement, ranking, clickthroughs and conversion. Assistant will be responsible for producing onsite copy, features, sponsor tagging, and other content as required.
SOUVENIR SALESPERSON, Fair-time position
5 hour and 8 hour positions available during the Fair. Clerks will sell Fair themed souvenirs to Fairgoers during the 12-Day Fair. Maintain a neat inventory, clean booth and help set up displays. Cheerfully greet the public and offer information as requested. Operate the Point-of-Sale system. Must be able to stand for a five hour shift and make change.
RECYCLE SHIFT LEADER, Fair-time position
Work the entire Fair and a couple of days before and after; 2 shifts available, approximately 10am – 5pm and 3pm – 10pm. Be a support person for the Recycle Coordinator. Make sure the recycle sorting area is running smoothly. Give instruction to volunteers, check the grounds to make sure barrels are positioned properly, and help where needed with collection and sorting. Keep the recycle area clean and organized. Must be able to work in all weather conditions and lift up to 30 pounds.
EXHIBITS ATTENDANT, Fair-time position
Attendants work 6 hour shifts daily during the Fair and may be retained for cleaning before and after the fair. Will be responsible for providing information and assistance to the general public in the Hoskins and Irwin exhibit buildings. Attendants work in the Exhibit Halls to protect entries and inform the public during the 12-day Fair. Must be polite, alert, and professional. Attendants are representatives of the Fair and will use the Fair Daily Schedule to answer questions from the public. Must perform general cleaning of assigned areas, including dusting, straightening pictures, picking up garbage, etc.
RUNNER, Fair-time position
Duties include distributing daily schedules and programs daily throughout the Fair, running errands to different parts of the fairgrounds and community, and assisting with clerical assignments including answering the switchboard as needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds, and must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Minimum age 18.
CERTIFIED FLAGGER, Fair-time position
Rate is dependent on position, either on the highway or non-highway. Applicants must hold an ADOT Flagger Certification to apply for this position. Must be 18+ years old. Must have the stamina and ability to keeping traffic flow steady and off the highway. Must be able to work in all weather conditions, have excellent vision, must be able to work on uneven ground. Must have excellent customer service skills.
TICKET SELLER, Fair-time position
Minimum age 18. Ability to process large amounts of tickets and money quickly and accurately. Must be able to make change, process credit card sales, have excellent attention to detail, and provide courteous customer service under stressful conditions. Must have prior cash handling experience; heavy cash handling experience preferred.
PARKING AND TRAFFIC, Fair-time position
Minimum age 16. Ability to direct vehicles to the appropriate parking area once they have entered the fairgrounds. Work with certified flaggers to assist with keeping traffic flow steady and off the highway. Must be able to work in all weather conditions, have excellent vision, must be able to work on uneven ground. Must have excellent customer service skills.
CROWD MANAGEMENT, Fair-time position
Must be 17+ to apply for this position. Positions vary from monitoring entry/exit gates, performances/shows, overnight positions and roving security. Must be able to stand and walk for entire shift. Must be able to work in all weather conditions, have excellent communication skills, must be able to work on uneven ground or blacktop. Must have excellent customer service skills.
