Palmer, Alaska – The Alaska State Fair is excited to announce the construction of a brand-new multipurpose event center near the Purple Gate entrance. Designed with year-round community use in mind, the new facility will feature flexible indoor space to host a wide variety of events, along with restrooms that are accessible from both inside and outside the building.
The event center will also include an adult changing room and a private room for nursing mothers, supporting accessibility and comfort for all guests. It will be equipped with a convenient prep/warming room to accommodate food service needs for various types of events.
Construction is already underway on the 8,300 square-foot structure, with plans to complete the project in time for the 2025 Alaska State Fair, which kicks off on August 15. The building is being constructed by Kuchar Construction, the same local company that built the Fair’s new Sluicebox building in 2023. As a result, fairgoers can expect a similar look and quality that blends well with the existing Fairgrounds aesthetic.
“This project reflects our commitment to providing a dynamic and safe gathering place for our community—not just during the Fair, but all year long,” said Jeff Curtis, CEO of the Alaska State Fair. “We’re thrilled to bring this new resource to life and create even more opportunities for engagement, celebration, and connection.”
The new building will enhance accessibility and convenience for guests during the Fair, while also expanding the Fairgrounds’ capacity to support meetings, markets, receptions, educational events, and more.
As a private nonprofit organization, the Alaska State Fair is proud to fund this project independently—with the generous and continued support of the Alaskan community. It’s thanks to Alaskans showing up year after year to enjoy the Fair and participate in our year-round events that we’re able to reinvest in capital improvement projects like this—elevating both the Fair experience and the community we serve throughout the year.
