GARDEN ASSISTANT, FULL-TIME SEASONAL POSITION, ANNUALLY FROM FEBRUARY TO OCTOBER
Seeking a full time/seasonal Assistant Gardener to join a crew that produces over 40,000 plants annually to create the Alaska State Fair’s nationally-renown displays. This Gardener will be involved in all aspects of crop production including transplanting, potting, repotting, staking, tying, grooming, watering and fertilizing. They will become well versed in all aspects of the Fair’s high standards for producing beautiful display plants. A critical part of this position included supervising summer crew members under the direction of the Head Gardener. Periodic weekend and holiday hours are required. Dedication and passion for the field of quality horticulture is a must.
A two-year degree in Horticulture with emphasis in Floriculture would be ideal. Minimum requirements are a working knowledge of greenhouse production, environmental control and irrigation. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills and be effective working as part of a team as well as independently. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Applicants with prior supervisory experience and/or experience or training in the horticulture field will be given priority consideration. Interviews will not begin until the week of February 20th.
Position pay rate is $13.00 per hour.
GROUNDS CREW, FULL-TIME SEASONAL POSITIONS
- Minimum age 18.
- Ability to lift 75-100 pounds.
- Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.
- Duties include, but are not limited to: Painting, carpentry projects, lawn mowing weed whipping, fence line maintenance and garbage pickup.
