Landscape Maintenance Technician
Purpose: The Landscape Technician assists the Head Gardener to beautify the grounds by servicing equipment and landscaping infrastructure. Also assists the General Maintenance Department as needed.
Reports to: Head Gardener and Grounds & Maintenance Director
Supervises: Seasonal garden crew
Confidentiality: None special required
Position Summary: Support the Head Gardener in maintaining and enhancing the Fairgrounds’ landscape. Responsibilities include equipment upkeep, greenhouse tasks, crew supervision and general maintenance support. Candidate must be flexible with a high aptitude for on-the-job training
Minimum Qualifications:
· Valid Alaska Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
· Physically capable of lifting, bending, kneeling and walking for extended periods
· Must be energetic, adaptable and team-oriented
· Comfortable with physical labor and getting dirty
· Available for 40 hours per week, including some weekends
· Able to work independently and as part of a team
· Skilled in operating snow removal equipment preferred.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
· Assist Head Gardener with daily landscaping tasks
· Maintain and service landscaping tools, vehicles and infrastructure
· Perform greenhouse duties such as, transplanting, watering, weeding and pest monitoring
· Supervise summer garden crew under the direction of the Head Gardener
· Support compliance with Alaska State Fair rules and safety protocols
· Assist maintenance team with installation and maintenance of winter events during off-season (Dec-Feb)
· Perform other duties as assigned
This is an entry level position but the candidate must have some basic maintenance skills. The ideal candidate will be willing and eager to learn various greenhouse and gardening tasks in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Recycle Lead
Fair-time position
The Recycling program is a team effort between the Alaska State Fair and Valley Community for Recycling Solutions.
Pick up and assist with sorting cardboard and recyclables. Communicate with vendors on recycling procedure, set up sorting area, assist in placement of recycle barrels, monitor the roll-offs with Alaska Waste, check in and instruct recycling volunteers. Must be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions, have a drivers license with acceptable driving record, and are able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Grounds Crew
Full-time Seasonal position
Minimum age 18. Ability to lift 75-100 lbs and willing to work in all weather conditions. Must have a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record. Duties include painting, carpentry projects, lawn mowing, weed whipping, fence line maintenance, and garbage pickup.
