{"id":18057,"date":"2019-08-08T15:20:34","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T23:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alaskastatefair.org\/site\/?p=18057"},"modified":"2019-12-24T14:57:35","modified_gmt":"2019-12-24T23:57:35","slug":"glenn-highway-improvements-suspended-during-2019-fair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alaskastatefair.org\/site\/glenn-highway-improvements-suspended-during-2019-fair\/","title":{"rendered":"Glenn Highway Improvements Suspended During 2019 Fair"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Glenn Highway Improvements Suspended During\n2019 Fair<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Work to be paused August 22 \u2013 September 2\nfor state\u2019s largest event<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will be smooth sailing for drivers\nheading to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alaskastatefair.org\/\">Alaska State Fair<\/a> this year, as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alaskanavigator.org\/projects\/glenn-highway-mp-38-43-south-inner-springer-loop-west-arctic-avenue\">Alaska Department of Transportation<\/a> will suspend work on Glenn Highway\nimprovements during the run of the 2019 Fair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To\nfacilitate traffic flow to the largest event in the state, crews will suspend\nwork<\/strong> from August 22\nthrough September 2, resuming on September 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>During\nthe Fair, drivers can expect both north and southbound lanes to be open.<\/strong> The highway will also be paved, repairs\nwill be complete on the Glenn-Parks interchange, and no detours will be in\nplace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>As\nalways, fairgoers are reminded to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Follow\nposted traffic and parking signs.<\/li><li>Leave\npets at home.<\/li><li>Not to\npark on the side of the highway or roads. <\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alaskastatefair.org\/site\/buy-tix\/\">Purchase parking passes in advance online at\nalaskastatefair.org<\/a> (to\nspeed up the parking process!). <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The\nGlenn Highway improvement project is important for the Fair and the entire\nMat-Su Valley<\/strong>, which is\nthe fastest-growing area of Alaska. Once the improvements are complete, the\nGlenn Highway corridor will be able to handle 30,000 cars a day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Glenn\nHighway improvements include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A four-lane,\ndivided highway fronting the fairgrounds<\/li><li>More\nvisibility with wider shoulders and ditches<\/li><li>New\nlighting<\/li><li>Dedicated\nturning lanes into Palmer<\/li><li>Accessible\npedestrian signals<\/li><li>Frontage\nroads for homes and businesses<\/li><li>Bike\nbaths on frontage roads<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the improvements will\neliminate dangerous left-hand turns across the highway, and upgraded signal\ncontrollers will communicate with each other, keeping traffic flowing smoothly.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Drive\nsafe and see you at the Fair!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Glenn Highway Improvements Suspended During 2019 Fair Work to be paused August 22 \u2013 September 2 for state\u2019s largest event It will be smooth sailing for drivers heading to the Alaska State Fair this year, as the Alaska Department of Transportation will suspend work on Glenn Highway improvements during the run of the 2019 Fair.
