NATIVE YOUTH OLYMPICS DEMONSTRATION The Native Youth Olympics competition began in 1972. They provide insight into Alaska Native cultural heritage and promote a healthy lifestyle, physical activity and sense of identity for both Alaska Native and non-Native students. Participants in grades 7-12 compete and the events have grown to more than 69 schools. Skills demonstrated are the Eskimo Stick Pull, the Wrist Carry, the Kneel Jump, the Seal Hop and the Alaskan High Kick. The event also will feature a blanket toss open to Fairgoers. |
