Concert line-up…free tickets…a board election…birthday celebration plans…2011 highlights…and, of course, pirates! It was all part of the Alaska State Fair’s annual meeting last Thursday, February 10 at the fairgrounds.

During the meeting, Fair members also cast their votes in the board of directors election. Carol Kenley and John Erickson were both re-elected, and Daniel Consenstein joined the board as a new member. Learn more about the new board members on our website.
We also unveiled our 2011 theme – 75 years and growin’ – and 2011 logo. (Thanks to all of you who shared your opinion on the logo on our Facebook page!) As this year marks our 75th birthday, we’ll be throwing a big birthday celebration on the first Friday of the Fair – complete with cake, games and fireworks!
Our own Ray Ritari, general manager, gave a sneak peak of entertainment and attractions coming to the 2011 Fair – some of the highlights include two new carnival rides, a new location for Flower Exhibits, Shanghai Acrobats, Kenai Racing Pigs, Cirque Magnifique, magician Steve Trash, Original Synners stunt show and, of course, pirates!
Everyone present at the meeting got a preview of Pirates for Hire, an attraction coming to the 2011 Fair. Many of the Pirates cast members have been or will be featured in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean movie series. Captain Jack and renegade pirate Shanghai stopped by the meeting for a sword fight, pillaging the board members and, of course, flirting with the ladies.
This is just the beginning of all the excitement we have planned for the 2011 Fair, so be sure to stay in touch with us here on our blog. You can also “like” us on Facebook and sign up to receive our email and mobile updates!Learn More
