 Fair Recycling Program
Partnership Effort Does Tons of Good
Since 2002, the recycling program at the Alaska State Fair has diverted nearly 150 tons of materials from the landfill. During the 2009 Fair alone, 17.65 tons – or 35,312 pounds – of recyclable materials were collected, sorted and sent for recycling. This included: 
- 14.75 tons of cardboard
- 2.44 tons of plastic (PETE 1, HDPE 2 and PETE/HDPE)
- .69 tons
of mixed paper
- .63 tons of aluminum
- .18 tons of steel cans
- .17 tons of plastic film
The recycling program, which is sponsored by BP, is a partnership between the Fair, Valley Center for Recycling Solutions and Green Star. It is also supported by hundreds of volunteers. In 2009, a total of 230 people volunteered to support the recycling effort, putting in more than 900 |
