Fair Announces 2009 Cabin Fever Reliever Concert Series
Trade in your winter boots for your dancing shoes at the Alaska State Fair’s annual Cabin Fever Reliever Concert Series, presented by Miller Genuine Draft. The 2009 series features country-rockers Highway 101 on January 17; blues/rock veteran Walter Trout on February 21; and Southern rock band, The Outlaws, on March 7.These 21 and over concerts take place in Raven Hall on the fairgrounds. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Following each show, the party continues with more great music and dancing. The Ken Peltier Band performs after the Highway 101 and The Outlaws concerts, while Bo Porter Honky Tonk Horsepower keeps the good times rolling after the Walter Trout show. January 17: Highway 101

Country-rock band Highway 101 is sure to get your motor running with their special sound that blends country music tradition with rock ‘n roll energy. Since the release of their 1987 self-titled debut, which featured the number one hits “Somewhere Tonight” and “Cry, Cry, Cry,” the group has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada, and garnered additional number one singles including “(Do You Love Me) Just Say Yes” and “Who’s Lonely Now.”Highway 101 has also been named vocal group of the year by the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association, and received Grammy nominations for album of the year and single of the year. To date, the group has released 11 albums, including 2004’s “10 All-Time Greatest Hits.” The band, which has a new album in the works, currently features Andy Gurley (guitar), Cactus Moser (drums), Nikki Nelson (lead vocals) and Curtis Stone (bass).

February 21: Walter Trout
With too much blues for rock, and too much rock for blues, it’s impossible to pigeonhole the music of guitarist Walter Trout. With more than 35 years of touring and recording under his belt, all you need to know is this New Jersey-native is equally capable of performances on par with Eric Clapton licks or Stevie Ray Vaughan riffs.A chance meeting with Duke Ellington on Trout’s 10th birthday catapulted Trout’s pursuit of a music career, which has included performances with John Lee Hooker, Big Mama Thorton and Joe Tex, as well as stints with Canned Heat and the legendary Bluesbreakers. Since embarking on his solo career in 1989, Trout has toured throughout Europe and the U.S., collected numerous radio hits, and released well-over a dozen albums, including 2008’s “The Outsider.”

March 7: The Outlaws
Southern rock music-lovers will welcome these outlaws with open arms. Formed in Tampa, Fla. in the early 1970s, The Outlaws developed their own high-powered, guitar-driven, country-rock, complete with self-penned music and three-part harmony, and ultimately established themselves as leaders in the genre known as southern rock.In addition to earning a reputation as a great live band, The Outlaws have also released numerous albums and enjoyed repeated chart-toppers, including “Green Grass and High Tides,” which reached number 13 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The Outlaws’ current line-up features original band members Henry Paul (vocals/guitar) and Monte Yoho (drums), as well as Chris Anderson (lead guitar), Billy Crain (lead guitar), Randy Threet (bass/vocals) and Jon Coleman (keyboard/vocals).
