Two New Board Members Elected at 2010 Fair Annual Meeting

The Alaska State Fair held its annual membership meeting last Thursday at Raven Hall on the fairgrounds. Approximately 100 people, including 83 Fair members, attended the meeting, during which Fair members elected two new members to the Fair board of directors, passed two bylaw amendments, and selected new board officers.

The two newly elected board members are Sarah Cimino and John Tracy. Cimino, a hobby farmer, has “enjoyed a lifetime of Fair participation.” She was an exhibitor in open and 4H classes, raised 4H market animals and worked for a food vendor. Most recently, she was the producer of the Fair’s Garden and Art Festival.

Tracy, president/CEO of Bradley Reid & Associates and former KTUU-TV news director, has been an emcee for events including the Fair’s opening ceremonies, and judged “everything from dirty sneakers to chili” at the Fair. His band, Chill Factor, has performed at the Fair for nearly 20 years. Complete biographies on the new board members are available at alaskastatefair.org.

Sarah CiminoAfter the election, Fair members selected the following board members to serve as 2010 officers: John Harkey, president; Bonnie Quill, vice president; John Ericson, treasurer; and Carole Kenley, secretary.

In addition to the board election, Fair members also approved two bylaw amendments. The first amendment changed the age requirement for eligible members from 19 to 18 years of age. The second amendment changed the annual membership dues from $15 to $25 and lifetime membership dues from $150 to $250.

Meeting attendees also heard a summary of the 2009 Fair and a preview of the 2010 Fair, which will take place August 26 – September 6, 2010.

The Fair wishes to thank all of the members in attendance at the meeting, as well as retiring board member Pete Probasco and board candidate Charlie Willis for their service to the Fair.
