Fair’s Raven Hall Welcomes Rage City Rollergirls on November 21

The Alaska State Fair welcomes the Rage City Rollergirls, Anchorage’s women’s roller derby league, in a bout against Seattle’s Rat City Rollergirls’ Grave Danger on Saturday, November 21, 2009. The bout will take place at Raven Hall on the fairgrounds. Doors open at 6 p.m. Wheels roll at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Children ages 3 – 11 get in for $5, and children under 3 are free. Tickets may be purchased in advance from any rollergirl or online at ragecityrollergirls.org. Tickets purchased at the door are cash only.

The bout consists of two 30-minute halves, with an approximately 30-minute intermission and half-time show. Food and drinks, including hot dogs, polish dogs, popcorn, candy, soda and beer, will be available for purchase.

This is the first time the Fair has hosted a roller derby event, and also marks the first time the Rage City Rollergirls have held a bout in the Mat-Su Valley.

“We were looking for a venue in the Mat-Su to expand our audience. Attendance can range from 500 to 1,000, and we anticipate that our attendance will be on the higher side since this will be our first Valley appearance,” said Jen Schober, aka Hurtz Jenerator, the bout production chair for Rage City Rollergirls.

Rage City Rollergirls is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, skater-managed organization dedicated to developing, promoting and sustaining the competitive sport of women’s roller derby in Alaska.
Established in March 2007, the league is in its second competitive season.

In addition to enjoying the sport, all Rage City members are required to volunteer in the Anchorage community. A portion of the proceeds from each bout are also donated to a local charity. The November bout is slated to benefit Food Bank of Alaska.
