Fair Announces 2009 AT&T Concert Series Entertainers
Tickets on Sale June 1; Advance Tickets Available Now to Fair Members
The entertainment line-up for the 2009 AT&T Concert Series at the Alaska State Fair may be the best ever, featuring headliners including Ken Peltier, David Archuleta, Bill Engvall, The Beach Boys, Bucky Covington, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Beatlemania, Seether with Static Cycle, Rodney Atkins and Creedence Clearwater Revisited, plus the finals of the 2009 Alaska State Fair Battle of the Bands. All shows take place at the Borealis Theatre on the fairgrounds. The schedule for the 2009 concert series includes:
Thursday, August 27: Ken Peltier and former members of the Waylon Jennings band, with special guest Brook Faulk
Alaska’s favorite country son Ken Peltier makes his comeback debut and marks the release of his third album, “Waymore Outlaws,” along with former members of the Waylon Jennings band, which recorded the 15-track CD with Peltier. Joining the performance is special guest Brook Faulk, who co-fronts the Ken Peltier Band, hailed as Alaska’s premier country band. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets without Fair admission are $15 each, and seating is first-come, first-served; tickets including Fair admission are $25.
Friday, August 28: David Archuleta
With a second-place finish on American Idol, a successful self-titled debut album, the hit songs “Crush” and “A Little Too Not Over You,” and a full tour schedule under his belt, 18-year-old David Archuleta is already being hailed as a young musical prodigy and a genuine pop star. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets without Fair admission are $45 general and $65 for reserved seating; tickets including Fair admission are $55 general and $75 reserved.
Saturday, August 29: Bill Engvall
Presented by Q99.7
With a talent for sharing the humor in everyday situations, Bill Engvall has become one of the country’s top comedians – as well as one of the busiest, with movies, TV shows, albums, tour appearances and books peppering his extensive résumé. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets without Fair admission are $35 general and $55 for reserved seating; tickets including Fair admission are $45 general and $65 reserved.
Sunday, August 30: The Beach Boys
Presented by KOOL 97.3
Since the release of “Surfin’” in 1961, The Beach Boys have earned their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. During their nearly 50-year career, the band has sold more than 100 million albums and released a torrent of hits, including their best-selling single “Kokomo” and “Good Vibrations,” which was voted the number one song of the century by Rolling Stone. Shows are at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets without Fair admission are $35 general and $55 for reserved seating; tickets including Fair admission are $45 general and $65 reserved.

Monday, August 31: Bucky Covington

Once a star on the North Carolina club circuit, country-rocker Bucky Covington is now known nationwide, after his top-eight finish in the 2006 season of “American Idol” launched a career that has included a self-titled debut album and single, “A Different World,” as well as performances with Sawyer Brown, and a place in the GAC Country Music Christmas tour. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets without Fair admission are $15 general and $25 for reserved seating; tickets including Fair admission are $25 general and $35 reserved.
Tuesday, September 1: Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver
Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, seven-time winner of the “best vocal group” at the International Bluegrass Music Awards, recently celebrated 30 years of making bluegrass and gospel music. Lawson, called a “mandolin virtuoso” and “one of bluegrass’ most revered talents,” released his 34th recording, “Lonely Street,” in May. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets without Fair admission are $19.50 general and $29.50 for reserved seating; tickets including Fair admission are $29.50 general and $39.50 reserved.
Wednesday, September 2: Battle of the Bands
Twelve bands will come to the Fair vying for top honors in the 2009 Battle of the Bands – but only one will walk away with the title. Two nights of semi-finals will be held on the Woodlot Stage, followed by the finals on Wednesday, September 2 at the Borealis Theatre. The finals will feature the best four bands, as selected by a panel of celebrity judges, and culminate with a special acoustic performance by Alaska’s own rock band, Static Cycle. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free with Fair admission.
Thursday, September 3: Beatlemania
Returning to the Fair by popular demand, the LA Cast of Beatlemania tribute band will once again provide a faithful re-creation of the excitement, sights and sounds of a live Beatles concert, complete with John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison look-alikes performing everything from the Beatles’ early classics to the later hits, including “Hard Day’s Night,” “Magical Mystery Tour” and “Let it Be.” Show begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free with Fair admission.
Friday, September 4: Seether with Static Cycle

Since its U.S. debut in 2002, the South Africa-bred, L.A.-based hard rock band Seether has caught the attention of music fans across the globe with its epic riffs, thunderous rhythms and conscience-invading choruses, resulting in two platinum-certified albums and radio favorites like “Fine Again,” the Top 20 pop hit “Broken,” and their re-make of “Careless Whisper,” which ranked in the top 10 rock songs on iTunes.
Opening for Seether is Alaska’s own rock band, Static Cycle. Hot off their 2008 debut album with their current hit single, “Pressure,” Static Cycle returns to Alaska for their first big homecoming performance after touring the nation. Saturday, September 5: Rodney Atkins

A fixture of the country music scene since his debut in 2003, it was Rodney Atkins’ 2006 release “If You’re Going Through Hell” that turned the country singer into a superstar. The platinum-selling album featured four number one hits – a feat that no one has accomplished since 2002. Atkins followed that success up with his 2009 single “It’s America,” which reached the number one spot this spring. Sunday, September 6: Creedence Clearwater Revisited

The legacy of Creedence Clearwater Revival continues through the work of Creedence Clearwater Revisited – a musical project launched in 1995 by two original band members, bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford. Today, the band performs up to 100 shows per year, playing classics like “Susie Q,” “Lodi,” “Proud Mary” and “Fortunate Son” throughout North America, South America, New Zealand, Europe and Asia. Tickets go on sale June 1. Buy and print tickets online at alaskastatefair.org. Convenience fees apply.
Members of the Alaska State Fair Association may purchase concert tickets before they go on sale to the public. Advance tickets are available to members now through May 31. Membership in the Fair association is $15 per year and is open to any Alaska resident aged 19 and up. To become a member and take advantage of the advance concert ticket sales, complete the online membership form at alaskastatefair.org.
