Fairs - Alaska  

The Alaska State Fair in Palmer is one of nine fairs in Alaska.  Take a road trip this summer and catch Fair Fun at another 2008 Alaskan Fair:

THE ALASKA STATE FAIR  -  Palmer

General Information:

1936

First Fair -  located on a five-block area east of the school grounds. 

1938

moved to the sight of the Palmer Pioneer Home.

1941

first Cabbage Contest.  $25 prize donated by Colonel Ohlson, Manager of the Alaska Railroad.  Won by Max Sherrod with a 23 pounder.

 

Today's Record:  105.6 pounds (2000) grown by: Barbara Everingham

1966

moved to the current 299 acre site.
