It’s “A Different World” now for Bucky Covington, since his top-eight finish in the 2006 season of “American Idol” launched a bright career in country music. Once a star on the North Carolina club circuit, Covington became known nationwide after the release of his self-titled debut album and single, “A Different World,” took him to the country charts and airwaves. The singer’s blossoming career, which is founded on country music “with as much rockin it as I can get away with,” has also included performances with Sawyer Brown, and a place in the GAC Country Music Christmas tour alongside Deana Carter, Julie Roberts, Blue County and Steve Azar.

Before auditioning for “American Idol” in 2005, Covington worked at his father’s auto body shop in North Carolina, and was the vocalist for local country-rock band Southern Thunder, which packed area clubs weekend after weekend. After wowing judges at his “American Idol” audition, Covington went to Hollywood, where he impressed millions more with his throaty drawl and Southern charm, and ultimately progressed into the competition’s final eight.

The day after his final Idol appearance, Covington was approached by Mark Miller, frontman for Sawyer Brown. Their collaboration led Covington to a deal with Lyric Street Records; Miller also produced Covington’s self-titled debut album, which was released in April 2007.
